Jude Kivel grew up in Northeast LA, in the working-class neighborhood of Lincoln Heights. Growing up, his parents, as a rule, always struggled with their finances and, to his knowledge, never turned to an organization like Haven Services for help with their taxes. Thus, it was always a major stressor for them. Such an experience makes him proud to be a member of the Haven Services team, and he hopes to take the experience he gains here and use it to help his family and his broader community.
Jude is a first-year member of Public Allies and a graduate of Cal State LA with a degree in political science, living in Koreatown. He has previous experience in youth work through programs like LA’s BEST and Young Storytellers. He is excited to fully immerse himself in the public service space and hopes it will allow him to do more to make a difference in the city he loves.
